 Foundations of Music

In the early elementary years, students develop fundamental musical skills through active participation in singing, movement, and instrumental play. Key focus areas include:

  • Singing simple songs with accurate pitch and rhythm.

  • Exploring steady beat, rhythm patterns, and dynamics.

  • Developing listening skills through exposure to diverse musical styles.

  • Engaging in creative movement and dance.

  • Introduction to classroom instruments such as rhythm sticks, drums, and boomwhackers.

  • Recognizing basic notation symbols (quarter note, eighth note, rest).

  • Encouraging exploration within the four main instrument families.
